Australian Children’s Picture Book Author Illustrator.
My name is Shan Crosbie and I am an emerging Picture Book Author Illustrator based near Canberra, ACT. I have entered the Children’s Literature field with a background in Fine Arts and Art History. I have a Master of Fine Art from RMIT University and 10 years of gallery exhibiting experience as a painter and multidisciplinary artist.
I have a passion for animal rights, with a particular focus on the lives of farmed and 'vermin' animals. These themes arise throughout my writing through heartwarming, entertaining and age-appropriate stories.
My picture book project, All My Friends Have Dogs was developed during a 6-week artist residency at La Botànica, Barcelona in 2024 where I was fortunate enough to work full time on my practice. My illustrations are created with traditional materials including gouache, watercolour, ink, oil pastel and pencil. My most recent project, Bahh-rupp… in the Night is inspired by my co-existence with the wild rats in the chicken coop.
In addition to writing and illustrating my own stories, I am also excited for opportunities to work as an illustrator on projects that align with my interests.
